    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly reliable and inexpensive Er doped optical fiber amplifier (EDFA) with low power consumption by using an inexpensive excitation light source which has low power consumption and operates in a wide temperature range. SOLUTION: Excitation light generated by a 1,480 nm band anchor semiconductor laser module 1 and a reflection mirror 2 having a reflection characteristic of a wide band is synthesized with signal light by an optical coupler 4-1 and is made incident onto EDF3 (Δn1.6%, cutoff wavelength of 0.95 μm, Er-doped concentration of 2,000 ppm, fiber length of 5 m) being an amplification medium. Optical isolators 5-1 and 5-2 are arranged in input/output ends for suppressing oscillation of EDFA.
