CONSTITUTION:In a composite lens 1, the first approximately hemispherical index distributed lens part 4 having the refractive index distribution, which is changed continuously from the surface of a substrate face 2A toward the inside in the direction of an optical axis 3 vertical to the substrate face 2A, and the refractive index distribution, which is changed continuously on a virtual face parallel with the substrate face 2A according as going away from the optical axis 3, is formed in a transparent substrate 2 which consists of a synthetic resin or a glass and has parallel planes. A recessed part 5 which has a diameter d2 smaller than that of the lens part 1 and has the bottom pointed is provided in the center of the first lens part 4, and the recessed part 5 is filled up with a transparent resin so as to be level with the substrate 2. A refractive index distribution different from that of the first lens part 4, for example, the distribution where the refractive index is increased according as going from the inside toward the boundary of the part 4 is given to the transparent resin part in the recessed part 5.

    • PURPOSE:To form an optical waveguide having a high refractive index in a transparent substrate by manufacturing a substrate of a transparent gel having a projecting line by superposing partly a monomer forming a network polymer, and diffusing a monomer forming a polymer having the lower refractive index thereby polymerizing the same. CONSTITUTION:A monomer Ma forming network polymer Pa having a refractive index Na is partly superposed to manufacture a substrate 1 of a transparent gel. A projecting line 2 is formed on the substrate so as to correspond to the pattern for a prescribed optical waveguide on the one surface 1A side thereof in one body with the substrate 1. A monomer Mb forming a polymer Pb having the refractive index Nb smaller than the refractive index Na of the polymer Pa is diffused from the surface side formed with the line 2 into the substrate 1 and is thus polymerized. The diffusion penetration of the monomer is slower in the base part of the line 2 than in the part right under the plane part 1A and therefore an optical waveguide 3 having the refractive index distribution wherein the refractive index at the center is largest and decreases toward the periphery is formed.
