    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a filter material for a gas generator having gas cooling effect and slug capturing effect capable of being practically sufficiently utilized even when through holes are coincident with each other over the whole layers when wound, and a gas generator using it. SOLUTION: The filter material 7 is formed in a hollow cylindrical shape by winding a metal plate 3 (thickness of 0.15 mm-0.25 mm) having 20-35 through holes 1 (diameter of 0.7 mm-1.1 mm) per 1 cm 2 approximately three times. Further, (diameter (mm) of through hole)/(the number of through holes per 1 cm 2 ) is 0.018-0.055. The through holes 1 are formed regularly in an inclination direction relative to the length direction of the metal plate 3, the through holes 1 being formed using a pin of which the projection end is a pyramid body from one side surface with respect to the length direction of the metal plate 3.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture a filter for an inflator in various kinds of length and inner and outer diameters by using a mesh material having uniform width.
      SOLUTION: A cylindrical body 1 as the core is prepared, on which a mesh 2 having a specified width is diagonally wound and overlapped. The winding diameter (outer diameter of the cylinder 1) and the wrapping margin are varied according to the specification of the filter (Fig. a). When a specified length of the wound mesh is obtained, both ends are subjected to spot welding 3 to prevent the wound mesh 2 from loosening (Fig. b). The mesh 2 in the cylindrical form is detached from the cylindrical body 1 and cut into a specified length to obtain a cylindrical mesh body 4 as the original of the filter (Fig. c). The succeeding processes are same as conventional processes, for example, processes of compressive forming to obtain a specified porosity and of treating the both ends of the mesh to obtain a finished filter 5.
