    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent particles from adhering to the seal surface of a gasket even if a gasket holder formed by installing the gasket on a sheet body is placed on a work stand.
      SOLUTION: In this gasket holder for holdingly fitting the gasket 2 to the sheet body 1, cutouts are formed in a part of the sheet body 1, and support legs 4 bent and raised from the cutouts toward both face sides of the sheet body 1 are provided thereon, whereby since the sheet body 1 is kept in a state raised from the work stand by the support legs 4 when the gasket holder is placed on the work stand, the particles are prevented from adhering to the seal surface of the gasket 2 fitted to the sheet body.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the sliding resistance, and to improve the sealing property by combining a tape of expanded graphite and a fiber to be impregnated with the lubricant, and covering the periphery thereof with a reinforcing fiber. SOLUTION: A tape 1 of expanded graphite and a carbon fiber 2 as a fiber to be impregnated with lubricant are overlapped with each other, and the periphery thereof is covered with a bag of stainless steel 3 so as to obtain a knitting yarn 4 for gland packing. Since the tape 1 of expanded graphite and the fiber 2 to be impregnated with lubricant are combined and the periphery thereof is covered with the reinforcing fiber 3, rebound elasticity is generated in the packing, and furthermore, lubricant holding property is improved. Quantity of the fiber to be impregnated with lubricant is desirably set at 20 wt.% in relation to the cross sectional area of a sheet of expanded graphite. Furthermore, a range at 60 wt.%-120 wt.% is most desirable, and balance between the sealing property, sliding resistance and shape holding property of the packing at a rate in this range is especially excellent.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure sufficient sealing performance even used at a low fastening pressure by forming a metal C ring gasket frequently used for an ultra-high vacuum appliance into an approximately crescent cross section and specifying the ratio of the wall thickness of a part in contact with a mated surface by fastening to the wall thickness of the central part. SOLUTION: The cross section of a metal C ring gasket G1 is formed into a crescent shape gradually and stepwisely thickening the thickness from a B portion and D portion toward a C portion. It is so formed that the ratio of the wall thickness t1 of a part in contact with a counter-part by fastening to the wall thickness t2 of the central part is 1.2 or more. The material of the metal C ring gasket G1 is preferably austenitic stainless steel not to react with gas and the machining method for forming it into C shape is that it is pressed in multi-stages possibly so as not to cause work hardening and normalized under the anoxia atmosphere to the surface hardness less than 300 Hv, thereby providing a superior sealing performance. This constitution can hold the superior sealing performance for a long period.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide knitting yarn whose fragility is reinforced and which makes the most of a characteristic of expansive graphite to the maximum extent by forming the knitting yarn of a composite structure formed by press fitting-expansive graphite particles so as to cover the whole surface of metallic meshes having a thin width. SOLUTION: For example, knitting yarn 6 for gland packing is formed of a composite structure formed by press-fitting expansive graphite particles 3 so as to cover the whole surface of stainless steel wire-made plain weave meshes 1 having a wire diameter of 0.1mm and a width of 5mm. In a device to manufacture the knitting yarn 6, the meshes 1 and the expansive graphite particles 3 are supplied to a hopper 2, and the expansive graphite particles 3 are press-fitted so as to cover the whole surface of the meshes 1 by a preliminary rolling mill 4, and for example, knitting yarn 6 having a thickness of 0.4mm and a width of 7mm is also formed by a rolling mill 5, and is continuously wound round a widing roller 7. Therefore, a composite tape unseparable by bending or the like is obtained. String-like gland packing is formed by using this composite tape as the knitting yarn 6, and when it is installed, the gland packing by which a squeak of a shaft is not caused and which is excellent in sealing performance can be obtained.
