    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a transition (quenching) from a superconducting state to a normal conducting state uniform and easy in a superconducting current limiting device which is a current limiting element such as a leakage current limiter formed by winding a coil on a superconductor. SOLUTION: In a superconducting current limiting device comprising a superconductor component 1, each superconductor component comprises a superconductor body 2 on which a coil 3 is wound, and the coil 3 is electrically connected to the superconductor body 2. Then a magnetic field is generated on the superconductor by a current flowing through the coil on transition of the superconductor from the superconducting state to the normal conducting state. The magnetic field makes a transition (quenching) from the superconducting state to the normal conducting state smooth, and as the device is self triggering (induction), fault state detection and the generation of the magnetic field for quenching are not required.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a superconducting current limiter capable of being easily integrated into a transformer station or a switchig apparatus.
      SOLUTION: The current limiter (1) has an ultralow-temperature container (2), and a superconducting assembly (5) constituted of a high-temperature superconductor (HTSC) soaked into a liquid coolant (6), such as a liquified nitrogen. Bushings (25, 28) having conductors (17, 18) are related to the body (3) of the container (2), in such a manner that the conductors (17, 18) extend horizontally, from a peripheral space to an ullage space (8) between the level (7) of the liquid coolant (6) in the container (2) and a cover (4). The bushings (25, 28) are disposed so that the cover (4) can be removed, without releasing the electrical connection between the current limiter (1) and circuits to be protected, as has been required in the conventional current limiters.
