    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ship rudder for enhancing course keeping performance of a vessel by reducing rudder resistance during straight advancing of the vessel with an easy means as well as reducing meeting rudder resistance in a minute steering angle as much as possible by improvement of a lower end part of a conventional ship rudder provided with an inverted trapezoidal side shape.
      SOLUTION: A rudder 2 provided for a stern 1 is equipped with an additive object 2b which is a flat spindle body having an airfoil vertical cross section slightly projecting outward on a lower end of a rudder body 2a having the inverted trapezoidal side shape. A center line 2c of the vertical cross section of the additive object 2b is inclined backward and obliquely upward, and the inclination angle α is set to be 4-10 degrees. The additive object 2b receives a stream to the rear part of a ship bottom part near the rudder during the navigation to generate lift. As the forward component act as thrust, the rudder resistance can be reduced, and augmentation of maneuvering force is expected at the time of steering.

This prevents the boundary layer in the tunnel-like recessed part 14 from peeling, and suppresses an increase in hull resistance.
