    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new method in which, in the production of glyceric acid or dihydroxyacetone which uses glycerol as raw material by a microorganism reaction process, it is possible to change the production of glyceric acid and dihydroxyacetone alternatively, the quantity of the production is increased tremendously and, moreover, cheap raw material of crude glycerol treated as waste is used without any complicated pretreatment.
      SOLUTION: While the solution selected from either one of an alkaline solution containing glycerol but not containing methanol and a glycerol solution containing methanol is feeded to a culture medium containing glycerol, a microorganism which has an ability to convert glyceric acid from glycerol is cultured and either glyceric acid or dihydroxyacetone is produced alternatively. As the alkaline solution containing glycerol but not containing methanol and the glycerol solution containing methanol, a crude glyceric acid solution, for example, produced as a by-product in the transesterification of oil and fat is used.
