    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reactive resin which is excellent in storage stability in an aq. medium since it is based on a polyphenol epoxy resin and has one or more cyclocarbonate and carboxyl groups in one molecule. SOLUTION: A polyphenol epoxy resin is dissolved in an org. solvent, and the epoxy groups of the resin is reacted with carbon dioxide at 60-140 deg.C in the presence of a catalyst to introduce cyclocarbonate groups into the resin. The resultant product is dissolved in an org. solvent and reacted with a polycarboxylic anhydride (e.g. phthalic anhydride) at 80-140 deg.C to introduce carboxyl groups into the resin. A basic compd. (e.g. a sec. or tert. amine or potassium hydroxide) is added to the resin to neutralize 30-150% of carboxyl groups of the resin. The resin is then compounded with an amine compd. or a ketimine compd. as a curative, thus giving a curable resin compsn. Examples of the polyphenol epoxy resin are a bisphenol A epoxy resin, a bisphenol S epoxy resin, and a phenol novolak epoxy resin.
