    • PURPOSE:To reduce the inertia force and vibration and enhance the fuel economy in addition to reduce manufacturing cost through the weight reduction which is accomplished by reinforcing the mother material by combining long fibers with both a small end part and a lever part together with combining short fibers with the large end part. CONSTITUTION:For reinforcing purposes, both a small end part 2 and a lever part 4 are combined with long continuous fibers 5, which are made of SiC having a diameter of about 0.2mm, a means length of about 150mm, and an aspect ratio of 750. Also for reinforcing purposes, a large end part 3 having many notch holes and end-parts is combined with short fibers 6, which can almost be regarded as reinforced particles and which are made of SiC having the same diameter as the above, a means length of about 2mm, and an aspect ratio of about 10. In this manufacturing method, long fiber bundles, whose shape coincide with those of the small end part 2 and the lever part 4, are manufactured first by means of an aqueous solution method, using a binder made of colloidal silica. Next, short fiber bundles are manufactured by the same method as the above one in such a manner that the short fibers are continuous with the long ones, thereby obtaining a complete set of fiber bundles. The mother material is impregnated to these fiber bundles by means of pressure forging method. Accordingly, the weight of the connecting rod can be reduced, thereby reducing both inertia force and vibration of the rod and enhancing the fuel economy together with reducing the manufacturing cost.

    • PURPOSE:To reduce both weight and manufacturing cost of a connecting rod by using the mother material, with which the fibers are combined in random and three-dimensional directions, and arranging the fibers in such a manner that the fibers shows strong tendency to follow the direction of the axis in the lever part, and that they are concentric with a pin-through hole of at least one of the two end parts, or the small end part and the large end part. CONSTITUTION:By using a mother material, with which the fibers are combined in random and three-dimensional directions, fibers 5a are arranged mainly in the same direction as that of the axis of a lever in the lever part, while fibers 5b and 5c are arranged in a specific manner that the 5b and 5c become concentric with a through hole 2a, which is for a piston pin at a small end part 2, and with a through hole 3a, which is for a crank pin at a large end part 3, respectively. To do this, while the mother material is under hot extrusion work, care is taken so that the fibers are preponderantly arranged in the extruding direction. In this connection, the part corresponding to the lever part 4 is rolled by means of a pair of rollers first and then the mother material is cut to a suitable length. Next, both small end part 2 and large and part 3 undergo the plastic working by using a hot casting mold. After this, both a piston-pin-through-hole 2a and a crank-pin-through-hole 3a are formed and finished. As a result, the weight of the connecting rod 1 can be reduced and the operation speed can be increased. Meanwhile, the vibration of the rod can be reduced, while the manufacturing cost can be lowered.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sliding structure which carries out low friction sliding which combines wear resistance and seizure resistance while reducing influence by droplet particles and reducing a friction coefficient of a sliding surface which slides in lubricating oil. SOLUTION: A DLC film 20 with a hydrogen content of 10 at% or less is formed on the outer surface of a piston 5 formed with a hardened layer 23, by a PVD method or the like. A sliding surface 14 of a cylinder bore 12 is formed of a copper alloy. The surface roughness of the hardened layer 23 is formed to 0.1 μm or less in centerline average roughness Ra, and the DLC film 20 is formed into a thickness of 1.0 μm or less. The surface roughness of the DLC film 20 is set at 0. 05 μm or less in centerline average roughness Ra and set at 0.5 μm or less at maximum height Rmax.     • PURPOSE:To improve tensile strength by burying a bolt for fixing a cap portion in a lever portion side half large end portion, and positioning the end portions of long fibers compounded in the lever portion and the small end portion in such a manner as to overlap the bolt. CONSTITUTION:Each one terminal of long fibers 7 is put between a clip 9 and a cap 10 buried in a lever portion side half end portion 3b of a connecting rod 1, passed through a small end portion 2, engaged with the other hook portion 6a, further passed through the small end portion 2 and returned to the clip 9. This arrangement is repeated to fix the long fibers. After bolts 5, 6 and long fiber 7 assembly are installed in a basting mold, an aluminium alloy or the like is pressure molded to make a connecting rod 1. Subsequently, a cap portion 3c is made, and the cap portion 3c and the lever portion side half large end portion 3b are put together and fixed by the bolts 5, 6 to finish the connecting rod.

    • PURPOSE:To increase the supply amount of lubricating oil, to achieve high-speed operation, and to reduce vibration by burying a U-bolt for fixing a cap portion in a lever side half large end portion, and boring a hole in the U-bolt to put the large end portion of a hollow pipe forming a lever hollow portion in the through state. CONSTITUTION:A U-belt portion of a U-bolt 5 with such a length as to project an end portion 5a over the large end portion 3 downward along a through hole 3a is buried in the lever side half large end portion 3b of a two-divided large end portion 3. A cap portion 3c is fixed to the end portion 5a of the U-bolt 5 by a nut 6 to form the large end portion. A hollow pipe fitting hole 5c is formed at the central position of the U-bolt 5, and a hollow pipe 7 forming a hollow portion 7a is fitted and buried in a lever portion 4. Accordingly, the amount of lubricating oil supplied from the crank side to the piston side is increased to achieve reduction of weight, high speed operation, reduction of vibration and reduction of fuel cost.

    • PURPOSE:To effectively increase strength and reduce the weight of a connecting rod, and to highten cooling performance of an engine by forming the inside of the connecting rod only by base metal, combined-covering the outer layer thereof with intermittent inorganic fiber, and exposing the base metal to the inner surfaces of bearing holes of the large end portion and the small end portion. CONSTITUTION:A cylindrical inner portion 48 made of only base metal is formed on the inside of the outer portion 49 of a cylinder made of an intermittent inorganic fiber reinforced composite member, and squeezed into a flat member 52. After that, the flat member is heated and pressed to form a member 53 moulded nearly like the shape of a connecting rod. The moulded member is trimmed to form a connecting rod 1. The inner peripheral surfaces 34, 44 of bearing holes of the large end portion 3 and the small end portion 4 are formed only by base metal. Accordingly, the outer layer of a lever portion 2 with the maximum bending stress is combined-formed by an intermittent inorganic fiber, so that the connecting rod 1 is effectively increased in strength and decreased in weight, the quality of the bearing portion can be improved, cooling performance of an engine can be enhanced.
