    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely prevent interference of an intake valve and a piston in a control failure.
      SOLUTION: When an operation angle control shaft 12 is rotated, an operation angle change mechanism 10 operates and an operation angle of the intake valve 1 is changed. When a phase control slider 43 is slid, a phase change mechanism 20 operates and a center phase of operation angle of the intake valve 1 is changed. When the operation angle is large, a slide range of a stopper 41 forming a part of the phase control slider 43 is limited by an arm 42 fixed or integrally formed on the operation angle control shaft 12, and advancement of the center phase is regulated. When the degree of advancement of the center phase is large, a rotation range of the arm 42 is limited by the stopper 41, and expansion of the operation angle is regulated.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To miniaturize a variable valve gear while maintaining a valve closed condition in the minimum lift condition and improving fuel economy performance effectively. SOLUTION: When a cam shaft 13 rotates in synchronization with a crank shaft, an oscillating cam 20 oscillates through an eccentric cam 15, a link arm 25, a rocker arm 18, and a link member 26 to open, close, and operate an intake valve 12. When a control shaft 16 rotates, a turning position of the oscillating cam 20 is relatively changed through the rocker arm 18 and cam lift characteristic is changed. A predetermined valve clearance is set between the oscillating cam 20 and the intake valve 12 in a base circle section θ1. In the minimum lift condition in which amount of cam lift of the oscillating cam 20 becomes the minimum, the maximum amount of cam lift of the oscillating cam 20 is set to be larger than 0 and smaller than the valve clearance.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To ensure the performance of an engine on noise and output to the maximum by variably-controlling valve lift characteristics so that downside ramp speed may be relatively low in the low-speed and low-load range and may be relatively high in a high-load range or a high-speed range. SOLUTION: When a control shaft 26 involving an eccentric cam 29 rotates, a control housing 18 oscillates vertically, so that the center of an annular disc becomes eccentric from the center of a driving shaft 1 and a cam shaft 11. For a cam, the section of an upside ramp part at a lifting start part in valve lift characteristics is set so as to be longer under a concentric condition and relatively shorter under an eccentric condition, and ramp speed is set so as to be lower under a concentric condition and relatively higher under an eccentric condition. The section of a downside ramp part at a lifting finish part in valve lift characteristics is set so as to be shorter under a concentric condition and relatively longer under an eccentric condition, and ramp speed is set to as to be higher under a concentric condition and relatively lower under an eccentric condition. By decreasing upside ramp speed in a low-speed range, for example, it is possible to restrain variation at the time of valve opening.
