    • PURPOSE: To produce an oxidation resistant molybdenum material having stable oxidation resistance even under a service environment where heating is applied up to high temp. in an atmosphere containing oxygen and water vapor and further load is applied and friction is brought about. CONSTITUTION: In order to obtain the oxidation resistant molybdenum material, first a base material is formed by applying recrystallization treatment to molybdenum bar, wire, plate or parts, which are prepared by means of plastic working such as rolling, wire drawing and casting, to form stretched crystalline grains having a ratio of major axis to minor axis of >=10, and then performing secondary working. Then, a compounded diffusion agent is prepared by mixing a metal powder consisting of at least one kind among Si powder, powder mixture of Si powder and Al powder, FeCrSi alloy powder, and CrSi alloy powder, a halogen compound powder, and an Al2 O3 powder so that the amount of Si in all of the powders is regulated to 10-80%. Heat treatment is performed at 1000-1300 deg.C in a nonoxidizing atmosphere and a reducing atmosphere by using the compounded diffusion agent, by which at least two layers of an MoSi2 layer excellent in oxidation resistance and an Mo5 Si3 layer having a thermal expansion coefficient close to that of the MoSo2 layer are formed on the outermost surface side on the above base material and on the side face of the above base material, respectively.
