    • PURPOSE:To prevent the lateral sliding, curving, etc. of a billet in the stage of cutting the top crop of the final billet by conveying the final billet up to a cutting position while holding the same clamped with a clamping device mounted to a gas cutting machine. CONSTITUTION:The final billet 14 that remains after ordinary cutting is pressed and clamped by a clamping device 5 and while the billet 14 is held fixed by a cutting machine body 1, the body 1 and the billet 14 are moved up to the place above a crop carriage 12. When the body 1 comes to the position above the crop carriage, a limit switch for detecting position operates to stop the body 1; at the same time, the clamping by the device 5 is released to move only the billet 14 by a prescribed distance. When the top crop 15 at the succeeding end part of the billet 14 comes to the position above the crop carriage 12, the movement of the billet 14 is stopped and the crop cutting with a cutting torch 7 mounted to the body 1 is started, whereby the top crop is cut and dropped onto the carriage 12.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent the clogging of a nozzle by once quickly opening a stopper to the opening degree larger than the opening degree limit within which the clogging of the nozzle part is generated simultaneously with the start of the drive of pinch rolls after starting the casting and successively, once quickly and wholly closing the stopper. CONSTITUTION:Molten steel 2 retained in a tundish 1 is poured into a mold 4 through the nozzle 3. After the start of the casting, by once quickly opening the stopper 8 to the opening degree at larger than the opening degree limit within which the clogging of the nozzle 3 part is generated simultaneously with the start of the drive of the pinch rolls 6 and successively, once quickly and wholly closing the stopper, the outer force is imparted to the stuck material to the nozzle 3. When the molten steel level is lowered during the continuous molten steel level control in the mold 4 and reaches the prescribed value or lower, the stopper 8 is mutually or intermittently moved to the opening degree larger than the opening degree limit within which the clogging of the nozzle 3 part is generated and the whole closing. Thus, the clogging of the nozzle 3 is prevented.
