    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quickly and accurately evaluate the particle diameters and shape distribution of non-metallic inclusion in steel by casting illumination from one direction of the inclusion extracted and separated from the steel, and image- analyzing silhouette of inclusion particles which is formed by the transmission light. SOLUTION: Inclusion extracted from steel is collected, for instance, by a cellulose filter, which is stuck on a preparation 1, and reacted with acetone or the like to make it transparent. The transparent preparation (observation sample) 1 is disposed on a movable stage 4 so as to be at a right angle on the straight line on which a light source 2 and a TV camera 3 are connected, and light from the light source 2 is applied to obtain the silhouette image of inclusion particles. The particle diameters, shape and the number of the inclusion in the steel are measured and evaluated by image-analyzing the silhouette. Thereby, quality of the steel material can be quickly and accurately evaluated.

By this constitution, at the time of single blowing the oxygen, the supersonic blowing is executed and the contacting efficiency of the oxygen onto the molten steel is improved and further, the stable combustion can be obtd. by efficiently mixing the combustion gas and the oxygen.

    • PURPOSE:To produce a billet having stable and high quality by comparing and operating the measured shell thickness value of a continuous casting billet and a set value with a computer and moving an electromagnetic stirrer to the optimum solidifying position of the billet according to the result of the comparison. CONSTITUTION:A molten steel is poured into a casting mold formed of a casting wheel 6 and a belt 9 and the solidified shell formed by the mold is drawn to the outside of the mold in synchronization with the wheel 6 and is straightened by a leading-out knife 13 and straightening rolls 14. The continuous casting billet 1 cooled by coolers 10, 15 are passed through an electromagnetic stirrer 17 and drawing pinch rolls 16 to a movable electromagnetic stirrer 19. The measuring data of a device 20 for measuring the shell thickness is fed to a computer for control and the stirrer 19 is moved to a desired position in the drawing direction of the billet by the signal thereof to suppress the movement of the thickened molten steel toward the central part of the billet 1. The stirrer 17 is preferably provided in the position of about 40-50% solidifying rate of the sectional area and the stirrer 19 in the position of about 60-70%.
