    • PURPOSE:To provide a collision detection sensor of high reliability furnished with distinction ability not to mistake mere contact, mischief and others for collision while certainly detecting collision regardless of the size of a collided vehicle in order to expand a side air bag at the time of side face collision of the vehicle. CONSTITUTION:A plural number of contact points 21s and 22s are installed almost in parallel on the outside surface of a side door beam 15 as a reinforcing member fixed inside of a door panel 16, one contact point 21s is covered with a cover 21 of high rigidity and the other contact point 22s is covered with a cover 22 of low rigidity (in this case, the cover 22 of low rigidity covers the cover 21 of high rigidity in layers). Consequently, there is made a difference in the strength of external force in the case when each of the covers 21, 22 is smashed by receiving the external force due to collision of a vehicle and others, it is possible to precisely detect the strength of the external force, a position affected and others from combination of a plural number of signals continuously output by the contact points corresponding to their respective covers.

    • PURPOSE:To provide a collision detection sensor of high reliability, which is not operated for a local shock, but which is surely operated only when a collision on the surface of not less than a certain level, or when a large local load that can be considered as a collision, is applied. CONSTITUTION:A pair of contacts 24a, 24b of a collision detection sensor, are arranged in parallel to one another, on the surface of a pressure receiving side of a fixed member 1 provided in a vehicle door, and a plurality of elastic members 22b, 22c are provided on the outer surface of a cover body 21 that covers the contacts 24a, 24b, in such a way that the points of the members are alternately engaged with the contacts 24a, 24b from guiding holes 23b, 23c of the cover body 21. When a shock is received, more than one pair of the elastic members 22b, 22c are elastically deformed, and are abutted on the contacts 24a, 24b, respectively, while both of the contacts are worked and the sensor is thereby operated by a low load working mechanism, and both of the contacts 24a, 24b are worked through the deformation or the movement of the cover body 21 at the time of receiving large load, and the sensor is thereby worked, by a high load working mechanism.

    • PURPOSE:To provide a collision detecting sensor which can be manufactured at low cost and be easily and surely operated by providing a displacement converting means for converting the deformation and displacement of a vehicle panel in the direction of thickness of a substrate to the displacement in the longitudinal direction of the substrate and a detecting means adapted to operate in response to the displacement and generate a collision detecting signal on a substrate disposed along a vehicle panel. CONSTITUTION:A long collision detecting sensor 20A extended in the longitudinal direction is disposed in the vertical middle position in a vehicle door 10A. When an impact is applied, an outer panel 11 of the door 10 is deformed inward, and a housing 21 of the collision detecting sensor 20A provided along the outer panel is also deformed and displaced. With the deformation and displacement, a wire 22 is largely bent between collision walls 21A from the shortest straight state to be decreased in the axial length. Accordingly, a cantilever 23B is drawn in the direction of S against a coiled spring 23D, and a limit switch 23A is operated to close its contact point, so that an electric current is applied to a spark plug of an inflator 90.
