摘要： PURPOSE:To obtain a novel initiator capable of producing a telechelic polymer having narraw molecular weight distribution and useful for paint, using a wide variety of monomer as raw material by reacting an alpha-cumylalcohol derivative with a group Ia metal element. CONSTITUTION:The objective anionic polymerization initiator of formula II (M is group Ia metal element) can be produced by reacting a compound of formula I (R1, R2 and R4-R8 are 1-10C alkylene; R7 may be H; R3 is 1-10C alkylene) [e.g. o-,m- or p-(2-trimethylsiloxyethyl)-alpha-cumyl alcohol methyl ether and o-, m- or p-(2-triethylsiloxypropyl)-alpha-cumyl alcohol methyl ether] with a group Ia metal element (e.g. K and CS). The initiator used preferably in the form of a solution dissolved in a polar solvent such as THF and 1,4-dioxane.

CONSTITUTION:A telechelic polymer having a number-average molecular weight of preferably 500-10,000,000 is produced by carrying out anionic polymerization of one or more anionic polymerizable monomers [e.g. styrene and (meth) acrylonitrile] in the presence of a novel anionic polymerization initiator of formula (R1, R2 and R4-R7 are 1-10C alkylene; R7 may be H; R3 is 1-10C alkylene; M is group Ia metal element) [e.g. o-, m- or p-(2-trimethylsiloxyethyl) cumene potassium or cesium compound] and, if necessary, reacting the resultant polymer with reagent capable of introducing a functional group with a crosslinking group at a growing terminal of polymer.

A taxomer comprising 1-4mol. of component A is reacted with 0-3mol. of another alpha-alkylstyrene (derivative) (B) free of said protected functional group of formula VIII (wherein R7 is H or R1) is reacted with an alkali metal (alloy).
