摘要： PURPOSE:To obtain the title composition which is lowly viscous, has high crosslinkability and can give a flexible and tough high-elasticity paint film, by polymerizing a specified compound and an alpha,beta-ethylenically unsaturated monomer. CONSTITUTION:A specified amount of tetrahydrophthalic acid is added dropwise to a solution containing both of (meth)acryloyl halide and a Lewis acid metal salt and the mixture is heated with agitation to effect polymerization through ring opening. The polymerization is stopped by adding water, an alkaline solution or a quat. ammonium hydroxide (e.g., tetramethylammonium hydroxide) to obtain a compound of formula I (wherein R is H or methyl, and n is 3-100). 20-100mol.% this compound and 80-0mol.% another alpha,beta-ethylenically unsaturated monomer are polymerized to obtain an acrylic resin composition of a number- average MW of 1,000-100,000, having a soft-structure oxytetramethylene chain of formula II in the skeleton of the resin and a reactive hydroxyl group at the terminal of a side chain.

USE:Used for producing addition polymers, such as acrylic resin, useful as an internal emulsifying agent and capable of imparting flexibility to polymers, having surface-active function itself and effectively used for preparing acrylic emulsions by emulsion polymerization, e.g. the field of coatings. PREPARATION:For example, tetrahydrofuran is subjected to ring opening polymerization with an acryloyl or methacryloyl halide and a metallic salt of a Lewis acid and the polymerization reaction is stopped with an aqueous solution of an alkali or quaternary ammonium hydroxide to afford the aimed compound expressed by the formula. As another method, tetrahydrofuran is subjected to ring opening polymerization with a strong protonic acid and the polymerization reaction is stopped with a metallic salt of (meth)acrylic acid, etc., to provide the aimed compound.
