    • PURPOSE:To prevent generation of defective product with insufficient length, and to make the billet weight diminishable, by installing a mechanism for correcting the roll clearance correspondingly to the billet weight. CONSTITUTION:Reference data such as the reference weight of bilet, the density of billet, the reference length of hollow piece, the reference sectional area of hollow piece, the diameter of roll caliber, the plug diameter is previously inputted to computer 7, and the computer 7 previously operates the roll clearance of roll 1 depending on these input data. Each billet 5 is weighted on the weighing scale 6, and the weighted data is inputted to the computer 7 wherein the datum is compared with the reference weight of billet, and the deviation DELTAW of the concerned billet weight is obtained therein. The computer 7 thereupon operates the correction value DELTAC for the roll clearance. The signal of this DELTAC is inputted to the roll clearance adjuster 9 which then corrects the clearance of the roll 1. On the other hand, the compensation data is sent from the length measuring device 8 as the feedback to the computer 7.

    • PURPOSE:To make the sizing pass after hardening and tempering treatments unnecessary, by previously giving a diametral deviation along the longitude to the pipe blank through the sizing pass before the heat treatment, and by correcting the sectional roundness of the pipe through the rotary roundness correcting work, at manufacturing the seamless steel pipe. CONSTITUTION:At manufacturing the seamless steel pipe, the pipe blank is previously formed into a tapered shape by applying a sizing work to the pipe blank with the biased rotary sizer in anticipation of the outer diametral deviation along the longitude, which occurs in the following heat treatment. This diametral deviation is canceled by the diametral deviation occurring through the hardening and tempering treatments; hereby, the steel pipe is freed from the diametral deviation along the longitude. The roundness deviation in the section of the steel pipe, occurring through the heat treatment, is corrected by the rotary roundness corrector at a temperature range from 250 deg.C to the tempering temperature, after the heat treatment. According to the present method, the seamless steel pipe can be manufactured at a low cost without necessity of the sizing pass after the heat treatment.
