    • PURPOSE:To control the length or wall thickness of a tube with good accuracy to a specified value by measuring the weight of a billet from which scale is stripped and controlling the number of rotation of the roll of a mandrel mill and its gap in accordance with the weight of the billet, etc. CONSTITUTION:The billet taken out of a heating furnace 1 is pierced by a piercer 2 and the scale which is stuck at that time is stripped off. Then, the billets are rearranged on an alignment line and at this time a weighing machine 11 measures the weight of the billet from which scale is stripped. The result measured by the weighing machine 11 is inputted to an arithmetic and control unit 7. A length meter and outer diameter gage measure the length and outer diameter of the tube shaped by a sizer 6 respectively and they are inputted into the arithmetic and control unit 7. The arithmetic and control unit 7 operates the number of rotation of the roll of the mandrel mill 5 and its nip between the rolls in accordance with the inputted information and deliver them to a sequencer 8 for controlling the equipment. The sequencer 8 controls the mandrel mill 5 in accordance with the input information. The billet is rolled by the mill 5 in a tubular shape and then shaped by the sizer 6.

    • PURPOSE:To reduce the production cost and to improve durability by attaching an end member consisting of a sintered hard material to the top end of a plug and forming a hardened surface layer on the surface thereof. CONSTITUTION:The end member 2 consisting of the sintered hard material subjected to a surface hardening treatment is attached by a screw system or adhering, etc., to the top end of a plug base body 1 made of a low alloy steel. A thermally sprayed ceramic layer 3 is then formed on the outside surface of the plug base body 1. The sintered hard materials consisting of WC, TiC, etc., are used for the end member and the surface hardening treatment is executed by a chemical vapor deposition or physical vapor deposition method. The end member 2 consisting of the sintered hard material is disposed to the top end of the plug base body 1 and the outside surface of the base body 1 is coated with the thermally sprayed ceramic layer 3 and therefore, the impact resistance and durability are higher than the impact resistance and durability of the plug constituted of a ceramic material and the cost is reduced.
