    • PURPOSE:To enable quick and exact quantitative detection of a slag level by providing plural magnetic field generating coils are receiving coils horizontally and stepwise so as to face each other to the wall of a converter and measuring continuously the current values of the magnetic fields generated in the converter. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic field generating coils 4a-4c parted from each other at prescribed spacings are embedded horizontally in multiple stages to one side of the wall 1a of the converter 1 above the surface of a molten steel 2. The receiving coils 6a-6c are embedded horizontally in multiple stages to the other side of the wall 1a so as to face the coils 4a-4c. ACs are supplied from respective power sources 5a-5c to the magnetic field generating coils 4a-4c constituted in the above-mentioned manner to generate the magnetic fields A, B, C. The magnetic fields A, B, C are continuously measured by the receiving coils 6a-6c opposite to said coils and are displayed on ammeters 8a-8c via amplifiers 7a-7c. The current values of the magnetic fields C, B, A change successively when the foaming of the slag 3 in the converter 1 progresses. The slag level in the converter 1 is thus exactly detected and slopping is prevented.

    • PURPOSE:To eliminate pressing of the inside surface of a bottom end to an ingot with respect to the retreat of the top end of short side and to facilitate enlarging operation for ingot width by providing a taper to the inside surface of the short side downward from the means connecting point on the bottom end side of the ingot width enlarging means at the top and bottom ends of a short side cooling member. CONSTITUTION:In enlarging ingor width, a short side cooling member 3' is retreated by operating only the driving means for tilting and parallel moving of an upper end side while keeping the connection point (b') on the lower end side fixed. At this time, the member 3' turns around the connection point (b') on the bottom end side, and the ingot is cast by virtually elminating pressing of the bottom end part of the inside surface of the member 3' to the outside surface of the ingot on account of a taper (t). The similar effect is also obtained by curving the inside surface of the member in such a way that the ingot width widens gradually toward the direction lower than the connection point (b') of the member 3'.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent the degradation of the quality of continuously cast ingots and the clogging of a tundish nozzle by adding the molten steel left in a ladle into the next and subsequent ladles and stirring the same by an inert gas then pouring this molten steel into the tundish in pouring the molten steel in the plural ladles successively into the same tundish at the continuous casting of steel. CONSTITUTION:Molten steel is poured successively and continuously from plural ladles into the tundish used with a continuous casting device. In this case, the pouring is stopped by leaving 3-20% the molten metal in the pouring ladle to prevent molten slag from entering the tundish. The residual molten steel is added into the next and subsequent ladles, and an inert gas is blown thereto to stir the molten steel, whereby Al2O3 formed at the pouring of the residual molten steel is slagged and the molten steel is cleaned; at the same time, the oxides formed are removed by adding Al. Staining of the continuously cast ingot with the Al2O3 which is a nonmetallic inclusion and the clogging of the tundish nozzle by the Al2O3 is prevented.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent the degradation of the quality of continuously cast ingots and the clogging of a tundish nozzle by adding the molten metal left in the ladle to the 3rd ladle after one in pouring the molten metal in the plural ladles successively to the same tundish at the continuous casting of steel. CONSTITUTION:Molten steel is poured successively and continuously from plural ladles into the tundish used in a continuous casting device. At this time, the pouring is stopped by leaving 3-20% the molten steel in the first ladle to prevent molten slag from entering the tundish. Since adding the residual molten steel in the next ladle requires a hoisting device for hoisting the same further upward, said steel is added into the 3rd ladle to eliminate the need for extra hoisting device. The molten steel in the 3rd ladle added with the residual molten steel is subjected to bubbling treatment and Al addition, whereby the Al2O3 produced at the adding of the residual molten steel is slagged, cleaned and component-controlled, thus the degradation of the quality of the continuously cast ingots and the clogging of the tundish nozzle by Al2O3 are prevented.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent occurrence of slopping caused by foaming slag by injecting inert gas into the foaming slag generating in a converter from a lance toward horizontal direction at the time of refining molten iron to molten steel in the converter providing a bottom blowing tuyere and the top blowing lance. CONSTITUTION:The molten iron 12 is charged into the converter 10 having the bottom blowing tuyere and slag making material, such as lime, etc., is added and the pure oxygen is blown from the bottom blowing tuyere and also the lance 16 is hung down in the converter to blow the pure oxygen on the surface of molten iron 12 from a nozzle 22 at the tip thereof, and C in the molten iron 12 is oxidized to refine to the molten steel by decarburization. In this case, the foaming slag 14 generated by the refining reaction is blown up by CO gas generated by the decarburizing reaction, to cause slopping. At the time of inserting the lance 16 by the increasing slag volume caused by foaming the viscous molten slag 14, it is detected by the detector. And, the inert gas 19, such as Ar, etc., is injected against the inner wall of converter from side holes 18 on the outer pipe of lance 16 and the oxygen concentration at this portion is reduced, to form reducing slag and the foaming is eliminated, and as CO is easily vented upward on the slag 14, the occurrence of slopping is prevented.
