    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a medium having a protective film which is excellent in an adhesion property while maintaining sliding resistance and flawing resistance by setting the critical surface tension atop at least >=1 layer of the intermediate layers existing between the upper and lower two layers of the protective film higher than the front surface of the lower layer. SOLUTION: Recording layers of a four-layered structure are formed by forming the first layer of a dielectric film 2, a recording film 3, a second layer of the dielectric film 4 and a reflection film 5 in this order on a substrate 1. A hard coating layer 6 is formed on the surface on the side opposite to the recording layers of the substrate 1. A first protective coating layer 7, a second protective coating layer 8 and a third protective coating layer 9 are applied on the recording layers formed in such a manner and are cured by UV rays, by which the magneto-optical recording medium is completed. As a result, the medium is given the extremely high durability to a head crash and the adhesion property of the protective coating layers is extremely enhanced. Since wrinkles, etc., are not developed between the protective coating layers, the production yield of the medium is increased at the time of production.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the increase of medium error rate and to ensure high resistance to head crash by forming a low hardness layer as the lowest layer of a protective coat kept in contact with a magnetooptical recording layer and a high hardness layer as the top layer. SOLUTION: A plastic substrate 1 with a pattern on one face is made of polycarbonate and dielectric films 2, 4, a recording film 3 and a reflecting film 5 are formed on the pattern forming face of the substrate 1. The top of the reflecting film 5 is coated with a 1st protective coating layer 7 of a radiation-curable resin compsn. and the top of the layer 7 is further coated with a 2nd protective coating layer 8. High resistance to pressure and shock in a head crash is ensured by preferably making the hardness of the 1st protective layer 7 as low as B or below in a pencil hardness test stipulated by JIS K5400. A protective surface excellent in scuffing and wear resistances can be obtd. by preferably making the hardness of the 2nd protective layer 8 as high as 4H or above in the pencil hardness test.
