    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately evaluate the degree of stabilization of the rust layer of a weather-resistant steel and to investigate the degree of rust stability of a constructed structure by performing the microscopic analysis of the section of the rust layer formed on the surface of the steel material. SOLUTION: The microscopic analysis of the section of a rust layer being caused on the surface of a weather-resistant steel material is made to evaluate the stability of the rust layer of the weather-resistant steel material. More specifically, a crack part existing in the rust layer is extracted by an optical microscope image, the crack density of the extracted crack part is determined, and the stability of the rust layer of the weather-resistant steel material is evaluated. For example, in the bright visual field optical microscopic photo of the sectional structure of stable rust being caused in the weather-resistant steel whose thickness has decreased, the rust layer and a crack are extracted. In this manner, the degree of the crack existing in rust being observed from the section of rust is evaluated. Specifically, the length of the crack existing per the sectional area of rust adhering onto the steel material on a sectional microscopic photo that is picked up by cutting and polishing the steel material is measured.
