    • PURPOSE:To effectively reduce the amount of crop loss to be generated in the top and the bottom of slab, by giving a rolling reduction to the slab with a roll group comprising a couple of vertical rolls and a couple of horizontal rolls whose roll axes are arranged in the same plane, before feeding the slab to the final roughing pass. CONSTITUTION:The universal rolling mill 14 is installed in the same line as the hot roughing mill 7, and comprises a couple of vertical rolls 15 and a couple of horizontal rolls 16 arranged between these vertical rolls 15; hereupon, the roll axes of the vertical rolls 15 and the horizontal rolls 16 are arranged in the same plane perpendicular to the slab 6. A slab 6 is heated by the heating furnace 5 to prescribed temperatures and is fed to the universal rolling mill 14 in which the slab 6 receives a rolling reduction by the vertical rolls 15 and the horizontal rolls 16 in the directions of thickness and breadth at the same time; thereafter the slab 6 is roughed by the roughing mill 7. In the present method, it is desirable to install the universal mill 14 on the upstream side of the hot roughing mill 7 so far as circumstances permit.

    • PURPOSE:To diminish the edge drop and to improve the product quality, by installing at least a couple of vertical rolls on the inlet side of the finishing mill, and by rolling the material with vertical rolls according to the specified mathod, at hot rolling the material. CONSTITUTION:The vertical reducing rolls 3a, 3b, for rolling the material 4 in the direction of breadth, and the work rolls 2a, 2b, of the finishing mill for rolling the material in the horizontal direction just following to the vertical rolls 3a, 3b, are arranged; hereupon, rolls 3a, 3b, are previously adjusted so as to make their rolling reduction to be 1/2 or less of thickness of material 4 on the inlet side. Hereby, the material 4 with the sectional profile like as the full line A, is rolled in the direction of breadth; and the both edges of material 4 are protruded upward and downward as shown by the full line B; and then, the material 4 is rolled with the work rolls 2a, 2b, into the product with good parallelism as shown by the chain line C. As a result, the finished product of excellent quality with extremely small edge drop can be obtained.

    • PURPOSE:To smoothly manufacture the spirally welded pipe with superior shape and quality together with, by additional installing the rolling reduction adjuster in the pinch roller for feeding the material into the forming machine, and by operating this adjuster for adjusting the rolling reduction depending on the detected value obtained from the camber detector. CONSTITUTION:The material coil 22 is fed in the arrowed direction to the forming machine; the detector equipped with the detecting parts 8 facing to both edges of the coil 22, is installed; the optical light projector and the photodetector are arranged at three stages along the traveling direction of the coil; the amount of camber of the traveling coil is detected; this amount of camber is inputted to the control board 4 which then adjusts the rolling reduction of the rolls 14, 14. Concerning the relation between this camber and the adjustment of rolling reduction, a correlation in case of thickness 10mm and breadth 2m, for an example, is previously examined; and correspondingly to the coil's traveling speed and the detected amount of camber, the rolling reduction for either one of the left or right sides, is adjusted, when the coil with the detected camber passes through the rolls 14, 14.
