    • PURPOSE:To enable the detection of an extraordinary form of the outer surface of a pipe even when it has a different outside diameter from others in a non- contact manner even with any vertical motion thereof without giving any damage to an installation, by detecting the extraordinary form of the outer surface of the pipe moving in the axial direction, based on a signal of an optical detector having a plurality of sensors parallel to the direction perpendicular to the axis of the pipe moving in the axial direction. CONSTITUTION:A light source 5 is combined with a lamp-condensing lens and has an angle of application enabling, at least, the irradiation of the sensors of an optical detector 6. The optical detector 6 is constituted in combination with a plurality of sensors arranged in parallel to the direction perpendicular to the axis of a steel pipe 1 moving in the axial direction thereof. Since a light from the light source 5 is received by the plural sensors of the optical detector 6, positions on the outer surface of the steel pipe 1 which are located in the directions perpendicular to the axis of the pipe moving in the axial direction thereof can be detected on the basis of light-reception signals of the plural sensors. When the steel pipe 1 having a fish tail 1b moves and the projection of the fish tail 1b passes through the sensor part of the optical detector 6, a light-reception signal is obtained in the optical detector 6. The position of a plot changes corresponding to the fish tail 1b, and an extraordinary form can be detected by detecting the position protruding from a normal position.

    • PURPOSE:To improve the surface characteristics of an ingot and to obtain dense solidified structure by connecting one end of a central shaft provided with an ultrasonic oscillation converging body to be supplied with electric power via a slip ring to a rotating drum-like synchronous mold of synchronous type continuous casting device. CONSTITUTION:A casting drum 1 which is a synchronous mold has a diameter and width of prescribed sizes. An ultrasonic oscillation converging body 14 is mounted with a central shaft 16 and a disc 17 intersecting orthogonally therewith, and ultrasonic oscillators 18 are radially screwed 19 to the respective end faces on the outside circumference of the regular polygon thereof. One end of the shaft 16 is screwed to the drum 1. A slip ring 22 having channels 25 for supplying electric power to the oscillators 18 is mounted to the other end of the shaft 16. High frequency electric power is supplied from a generator 27 thereof through these channels to the oscillators 18, the oscillation waves whereof are turned by 90 deg. and converged to the large horizontal oscillations of the shaft 16. Said oscillations are transmitted to the drum 1 whereby the radial oscillations are generated. Thus the lubrication between the drum and the solidified shell is improved, the oscillations are transmitted to the inside of the shell and the purpose is achieved.

    • PURPOSE:To stabilize quality and to improve heat treatment efficiency by calculating a cumulative tempering parameter of a material to be treated at a furnace charging terminal, converting the parameter to temperature, and heating an upset part by a preheater. CONSTITUTION:An artihmetic device 60 controls controllers 40 and 50 to heat a material to be treated in a heat treatment furnace 20. The desired cumulative tempering parameter, furnace staying time and heating temperature of the material on the extraction side of the furnace 20 are estimated. The cumulative tempering parameter of an upset part a certain time before on the extraction side of the furnace 20 is found from the furnace staying time and heating temprature by reversed operation, and on the basis of said cumulative tempering parameter, the temperature prior to a prescribed time is found by reversed operation. Thus, the cumulative tempering parameter of the upset part at the charging terminal of the furnace 20 is found finally. While natural cooling between a preheater 10 and the furnace 20 is considered, the temperature of the upset part on the exit side of the preheater 10 is found, and the preheater 10 performs heating in such a way that the temperature after tempering is equal to the found temperature.

    • PURPOSE:To align the centers of all the rolls on the same line in a short time with good accuracy and to improve the accuracy of rolling in multistage rolling mills for seamless steel pipes, etc., by correcting the centers of the respective rolling rolls with the center of a laser beam as a reference line. CONSTITUTION:A laser irradiating part 41 is mounted to the guide 4 on the inlet side of the 1st stand S1 of multistage rolling mills for steel pipes, and a detector 51 for a laser beam is mounted to the guide 5 on the exit side of the final stand S8. A beam is emitted from the part 41, and the center of the detector 51 is aligned to the center 0-0 of the beam and this is used as a reference line for the centers of rolling rolls. Next, housings 1-1g are installed to stands S1-S8 and the deviations of the centers of the jigs mounted to the respective housings from the beam center are detected with the detector 51. In accordance with the results of this detection, the centers of the respective rolling rolls are corrected, thence the jigs are removed, the housings are again installed to the stands and the centers of the rolling rolls of the stands S1-S8 are aligned to the reference line 0-0.

    • PURPOSE:To improve the accuracy of the centering control, at aligning the position of the coiled strip to the center of the rolling mill, by changing the control constant correspondingly to the change of the line speed of the strip, and by reducing the displacement of the payoff reel correspondingly to the reduction in the coil load. CONSTITUTION:The coiled strip is uncoiled from the payoff reel 1, and the strip is driven to run on the tension roll 2 and is transported to the rolling mill 4. The edge of the strip is detected by the edge detector 3, and the hydraulic cylinder 8 is actuated to displace the payoff reel in the axial direction. Hereupon, the speedmeter 12 always detects the line speed of the strip, and the parameter change-over circuit 14 is switched through the indicator 13; hereby, the control constant of the PI controller 10 is changed. Besides, the position of the payoff reel is sent as feedback to the amplifier 6 through the position signal generator 11, and the hydraulic pressure of the cylinder is adjustably reduced with the reduction of the coil load.
