    • PURPOSE:To improve coating quality by providing a snout with a cooling mechanism in the part thereof to be immersed into a coating bath and solidifying the coating bath in the snout exclusive of the moving passage of a metallic strip, thereby lessening the generation of the metal vapor of the coating bath and dross generated in the snout and preventing infiltration of the dross suspended in the coating bath by the solidified layer formed therein. CONSTITUTION:This coating method comprises continuously treating the metallic strip 6 from an annealing furnace 7 by passing the metallic strip through the snout 1 which is connected at one end to the annealing furnace 7 and is immersed at the other end into the coating bath 4 in a coating tank 3. The part 1a of the snout 1 to be immersed into the coating bath is provided with the cooling mechanism, for example, a conduit 2 for cooling over the entire part thereof and a liquid refrigerant is circulated therein, by which the solidified layer 5 is formed on the coating bath 4 on the inner side of this part. The thickness of the solidified layer 5 is cooled in accordance with a preset relation between a cooling capacity and the thickness of solidification, by which the molten metal exclusive of the part for passage of the steel strip 6 is solidified.
