    • PURPOSE:To obtain the thin single action type cylinder having a short axial length by a method wherein the cylinder is provided with a Belleville spring for returning of which outer peripyhery and inner periphery are supported by the cylinder and a piston respectively. CONSTITUTION:The board-like cylinder 11 of the cylinder device 10 is provided with a cylinder chamber 12 opening at one side in the direction of the thickness thereof while the piston 16 is inserted into and fitted to the cylinder chamber 12. The Belleville spring 20 for returning is fitted to and supported by the inside step 17 of the piston 16 at the inner periphery thereof while it is fitted to and supported by the outside step 14 of the cylinder 11 at the outer periphery thereof. O-rngs 21, 22 are fitted inbetween the Belleville spring 20 and the inside step 13 of the cylinder 11 as well as the outside step 18 of the piston 16 respectively. Thus, the piston 16 is supported to the cylinder 11 through the Belleville spring 20, therefore, the axial length of the cylinder device 10 may be shortened remarkably.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent a partition membrane from twist in a strut type suspension system by receiving a cylindrical partition membrane in a hollow rod with both ends being secured fixedly to the hollow rod, to constitute the inside of the membrane into a gas chamber and the outside into an oil chamber. CONSTITUTION:A cylindrical partition membrane 26 made of rubber or the like is received in a hollow rod 17. The outside of the membrane 26 provides an oil chamber 28 and the inside a gas chamber 29. The partition membrane 26 has an opening in an end 31 and is secured fixedly to the upper portion of the hollow rod 17 in the liquid tight condition by a membrane fixing member 33 and nitrogen gas enclosing bolt 34. Also, the bottom end is secured fixedly to a valve seat 41 of a damping force generating mechanism 40 by a fixing member 38. By this constitution flows oil in oil chambers 3, 28 through said generating mechanism 40 to develop the damping force as the hollow rod 17 expands and contracts relative to a cylinder 2, so that the gas chamber 29 acts like a spring. Then, as the upper and lower ends of the partition membrane are fixed, the membrane is never twisted.

    • PURPOSE:To simplify structure, increase the bending ridigity of a hollow rod, and stabilize rotation by providing an annular sliding bearing that supports the hollow rod for a cylinder in the axial turning direction and in the axial direction so as to freely slide. CONSTITUTION:A hollow rod 20 is inserted in a cylinder 10 and an oil chamber 21 and a gas chamber 22 are provided at the inside of the rod 20. In addition, a damping force generation mechanism 23 that connects the oil chambers 11 and 21 is provided at the lower part of the rod 20 and annular sliding bearings 25 and 26 are provided on the mutual opposed surface of the cylinder 10 and the rod 20. Furthermore, a suspension unit serves a spring function resulting from the gas pressure and a damping function resulting from the fact that oil is circulated to the mechanism 23 by expanding and contracting the rod 20 to the cylinder 10. Besides, the rotary movement of the cylinder 10 is smoothed through the sliding bearings 25 and 26 and the movement in the axial direction can also be performed.

    • PURPOSE:To simplify the construction of a suspension whose spring stiffness and damping force are variable, and to heighten the hermetic property of the suspension, by enabling a single driver built in a main actuator, to drive a gas passage open/close mechanism and an orifice control mechanism. CONSTITUTION:A suspension comprises a main and an auxiliary actuators 1, 40. In the main actuator 1, a hollow rod 10, which is attached to a vehicle body by an attaching portion 26, is inserted in a cylinder 2 attached to a vehicle wheel by an attaching portion 4, in such a manner that the hollow rod can be moved back and forth. A damping force production device 17 is provided in the lower portion of the hollow rod 10. In the auxiliary actuator 40, a free piston 42 is fitted in a cylinder 41, and the inflow and outflow of oil to and from the oil chamber 44 of the cylinder 41 are regulated by an oil quantity controller 45. A gas passage open/close mechanism 30 is provided for a gas passage 28 manufactured in a common base 25 for both the actuators 1, 40. Not only the gas passage open/close mechanism 30 but also the orifice control mechanism 31 of the damping force production device 17 are driven by a single motor 32.
