摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform normal reproducing/recording even if magnetic cards different in thickness are used by providing a gap adjusting means for adjusting a gap between a magnetic head and a pressing member according to the thickness of a magnetic card. SOLUTION: If a magnetic card 4 is thick, a specified optimal pressure is applied to the magnetic card 4 between a magnetic head 28 and a pressing member 29 and reproducing/recording is carried out by the magnetic head 28. If a thin magnetic card 4 indicated by a dotted line is inserted, a CPU issues a driving command to a linear actuator. A bar-like member 36 is protruded and a roller 37 is fitted in a notch 34b. Then, the swing angle of a lever 34 becomes larger than that when the roller 37 is fitted in a notch 34a and a gap T1 between the magnetic head 28 and the pressing member 29 is changed to T2. Since the gap T2 is set for applying a specified optimal pressure when the thin magnetic card 4 is held therebetween, the specified optimal pressure is applied to the magnetic card 4 between the magnetic head 28 and the pressing member 29 and reproducing/recording is carried out.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To cope with a thin magnetic card by catching a magnetic card between a second driving roll and a retaining roll and performing the control with this catch position as the reference so that a test card and a first retaining roll are separated from each other by a minute distance through a first control tool. SOLUTION: When a card reader is used for a card whose thickness is about 0.76mm like a magnetic card, a first control tool 31 is controlled to extend a gap W2 between a first driving roll 1 and a first retaining roll 11. When it is used for a this card whose thickness is about 0.2mm like a prepaid card, the first control tool 31 is controlled to reduce the gap W2 between rolls 1 and 11. Thus, accurate magnetic recording is possible even when a thick card as well as a thin card is used, and the card reader can be used for thick cards and thin cards.

The preventing means 26 is freely attachably and detachably fixed by screws via a waterproof gasket between the main boy 9 and a substrate of the circuit part 7. Thus, the means 25 can be protected from infiltration of liquid, etc.
