PREPARATION: The reaction of a compound of formula II (M is H, alkali or alkaline earth metal) with another compound of formula III (Y is halogen) gives the compound of formula I .

PROCESS: 3-Phenoxybenzyl 2-(4-chlorophenyl)-2-methylpropyl ether is prepared, e.g. by reacting 2-(4-chlorophenyl)-3-methylpropyl alcohol with a halide compound of formula (X is halogen) in a proper solvent, in the presence of a base such as KOH as an acid acceptor, at room temp. or under heating.
