    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a deoxidant whose capacity for absorbing oxygen is improved more than that of titanium oxide and the handling property of which is also improved and to provide a process for producing the deoxidant. SOLUTION: The deoxidant for absorbing and removing oxygen from an atmosphere comprises cerium oxide having an oxygen deficiency and comprises either a powder having a specific surface area of 0.6 m 2 /g or smaller or a molding having a specific surface area of 3.0 m 2 /g or smaller. The deoxidant can react with oxygen even in an atmosphere containing no water.
