摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable extension of reactor core lifetime, by increasing the reactivity by optimization of the diameter of fuel pellets, in a fuel assembly of a pressurized water reactor, and to provide a design method of the fuel assembly. SOLUTION: A fuel cladding 62 made of a zirconium alloy is filled with fuel pellets 61 formed by sintering uranium oxide to form fuel rods 51, and the fuel rods 51 are bundled, in a shape of a plurality of lattices to a fuel assembly 40. Uranium weight, loaded in the fuel assembly, is increased by increasing the outside diameter of the fuel pellets 61, a region A where the increment of the reactivity by reduction of burn up accompanying it exceeds the reduction in burn up by deceleration deficiency due to the reduction of moderator by increase in the outside diameter of the fuel pellets 61 is determined, and the diameter of the fuel pellets 61 is set in the region A where this reactivity exceeds it.
