    • PURPOSE:To obtain a lipophilic magnetic material to be used in a magnetic offset printing method by consisting said material of a specific polymer and magnetic powder and allowing a chemical bond to exist between the particle surface of the magnetic powder and the polymer molecule. CONSTITUTION:This magnetic material consists of the polymer which is solid at ordinary temp.-60 deg.C, has >=80 deg. contact angle with water and is soluble in a specific solvent and the magnetic powder. The chemical bond exists between the particle surface of the magnetic powder and the polymer molecule of this magnetic material for printing. More specifically, this material is dispersed into the solvent in which the polymer, i.e., the constituting component thereof is soluble and after the material is adhered to the image part on the surface of a magnetic drum, the drum is dried, by which the material can be fixed to the outside surface of the drum. In addition, the material does not wet with water even if the material contacts the damping water after fixing. Since the material has a sufficient property to retain lipophilic ink, the material is usable as the magnetic material even in a magnetic offset printing method.

    • PURPOSE:To enhance fixability, by using a magnetic powder and a hydrophilic polymer as constituents of the title material and making chemical bonds be present between the particle surfaces of the powder and the molecules of the polymer. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic material used as a constituent of a hydrophilic magnetic material is a powder of a ferromagnetic material such as iron, cobalt, nickel and an alloy thereof, and the particle surfaces of the magnetic powder and molecules of a hydrophilic polymer are chemically bonded by covalent bonds, ion bonds, coordinate bonds or the like. The magnetic material is dispersed in a solvent in which the polymer is soluble, the dispersed liquid is supplied to the outer surface of a magnetic drum magnetized at magnetic body parts of the surface which correspond to non-image areas, and the solvent is removed by drying from the hydrophilic magnetic material adhered to the non-image areas, whereby fixation is completed. Separation between the magnetic powder and the polymer does not occur at the time of dispersion in the solvent or at the time of fixation on the outer surface of the magnetic drum, and the polymer bonded to the magnetic powder is solidified in the subsequent process of removal of the solvent by drying, resulting in a fixed condition.
