CONSTITUTION:The ultrasonic wave transmitter and receiver 2 is composed of an array (not shown in figure) of 2n vibrators and a spot sound source whose spread mode of an ultrasonic wave is controllable is scanned by using the transmitter and receiver 2 to obtain data for synthetic aperture. Namely, the transmitter and receiver 2 is shifted by a scanning mechanism 3 to respective positions A, B, C, and D in order and then the spread mode of the ultrasonic wave at the respective positions A-D is controlled. Consequently, the ultrasonic wave never propagates to, for example, a point P even if the ultrasonic wave is reflected at the point P, so no unnecessary echo is generated and noises in an image within an inspection objective range L are suppressed.

    • PURPOSE:To make a faithful detection possible with a high S/N by arranging divisionally an oscillation detecting coil and synthesizing respective detection signals from coils through corresponding delay circuits and transmitting them to a discriminator to select plate waves having a specific mode from propagated plate waves. CONSTITUTION:Signals similar to plate wave waveforms are induced in detecting coils 19a-19d and are supplied to delay circuits 20a-20d. Each signal is delayed by a time set by a delay controller 22 and has the same phase and is sent to an adding circuit 21. Signals Da-Dd are added in the adding circuit 21 to generate a wide-amplitude signal A having a spread similar to that of plate waves, and this signal A is sent to a discriminator 14 through an amplifier 13. The discriminator 14 discriminates the attenuation quantity and the propagation time of plate waves on a basis of this signal and discriminates finally properties of a sample plate body 16. Thus, the resolution is improved, and the oscillation is great, and therefore, the S/N is improved to make accurate discrimination possible.

    • PURPOSE:To enable testing with high precision of a specimen with an extensive sampling period of digitalization, by irradiating a chirp supersonic wave onto a specimen surface and analyzing and processing an envelope of a signal detected from echo. CONSTITUTION:By a chirp signal emittor 510, the chirp signals are irradiated with the specified repetition period and ultrasonic wave is irradiated from a transducer 2 to a specimen 1. The ultrasonic wave reflected by rear surface B, notched part F of the specimen 1 is introduced into an A/D convertor 540, through transducer 2, amplifying circuit 5, envelope extractor 520. On the other hand, on output of the amplifying circuit 5 is introduced into a gate signal forming circuit 350 also and while defective echo or rear surface each is detected, the A/D converted outputs are stored consecutively in a memory 550. Further, by a micro-computer 560 echo of the specimen to be inspected is compared with the rear surface echo which is not provided with the defective part F preliminarily stored and if it is found different, judgement is given as defective and its position is defected by a signal frequency.
