    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a porous membrane not requiring preliminary wetting with an organic solvent, and simultaneously minimizing nonspecific interaction with a biomolecule such as a protein and a peptide while keeping the stability under a typical alkaline condition usable for cleaning the membrane.
      SOLUTION: The method for modifying at least a part of the surface of a porous membrane includes contacting a monomer having a polymerizable group or a monomer mixture, and a cationic polymerization initiator with the porous membrane, and polymerizing the monomer to modify at least a part of the surface of the porous membrane. The porous membrane of which at least a part of the surface is modified thus, and the method for using the porous membrane are also provided.
