    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To equalize light quantity distribution on a plane to be scanned in an overfilled type optical scanner in which a plurality of light beams are used.
      SOLUTION: The optical scanner comprises: a light source 3 which emits a first light beam L1 and a second light beam L2; a polygon mirror; a first imaging optical system which guides the light beams L1 and L2 to the deflection face of the polygon mirror and forms a line image having a width exceeding the face width of the deflection face on the deflection face; and a second imaging optical system which guides the light beams L1 and L2 reflected from the polygon mirror onto the plane to be scanned on a photoreceptor drum and forms an image on the plane to be scanned. The first imaging optical system is so adjusted that the optical axis A1 of the first light beam L1 and the optical axis A2 of the second light beam L2 are substantially symmetrical about the optical axis AO of the first imaging optical system. The power of the first light beam L1 and the power of the second light beam L2 are balanced on the plane to be scanned.
