    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide hydroxystyrene ABA type triblock copolymer, that is useful as a material for photosensitive resin components, excellent in resolution, electric insulation performance, thermal shock resistance, adhesion performance, etc., and suitable for inter-layer insulation film or surface protective film for semiconductor elements; and to provide a simple manufacturing method thereof.
      SOLUTION: The hydroxystyrene ABA type triblock copolymer comprises a segment A including hydroxystyrene repeating units a1 and a segment B including vinyl ether repeating units b, where a connected part of the segment A and the segment B is represented by a general formula (3) below, where (a) represents a coupling part to the segment A, and (b) represents a coupling part to the segment B. In the manufacturing method, polyvinyl ether having thiol group is used for a chain transfer agent at both terminal ends to cause radical polymerization with hydroxystyrene monomer.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel vinyl ether-based ABA type triblock copolymer containing a polyvinyl ether unit and a hydroxystyrene-based unit, and a simple method for producing an ABA type copolymer, capable of producing the ABA type copolymer by a series of steps.SOLUTION: There are provided a novel ABA type triblock copolymer including a segment A containing a hydroxystyrene-based repeating unit (a) and a segment B containing a vinyl ether-based repeating unit (b), wherein the segment A and the segment B are bonded through a single bond, and a method for producing the same. The triblock copolymer can be produced through a simple series of steps by living-cationically polymerizing a vinyl ether-based monomer such as ethyl vinyl ether and then adding and living-cationically polymerizing a hydroxystyrene-based monomer such as p-hydroxystyrene, in the presence of a bifunctional initiator and a Lewis acid.
