    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a binding agent for glass fiber excellent in stability of its solution with the lapse and capable of imparting the glass fiber with binding function, forming a coating film having excellent strength, improving the friction resistance on weaving and producing a homogeneous glass cloth free from naps, further having excellent flammability and accordingly easy in the removal of the binding agent after weaving by burning, owing to excellent permeability and adhesion when it is used for producing the glass fiber. SOLUTION: A modified polyol is obtained by reacting 100 pts.wt. of an alkylene oxide adduct prepared by adding a compound having an active hydrogen to ethylene oxide or ethylene oxide and propylene oxide with 1-30 pts.wt. of a bisepoxy compound. A water-soluble polyurethane is obtained by reacting the modified polyol with a polyisocyanate. The obtained water-soluble polyurethane is used as the objective collecting agent. Further, a water-soluble polyurethane having a weight-average molecular weight of 50,000-300,000 is obtained by reacting the modified polyol with the polyisocyanate, where the amount of the isocyanate group in the polyisocyanate is controlled so that it is 0.5-1.5 mole equivalent based on the hydroxyl group in the modified polyol.
