    • PURPOSE:To develop an electrode for electrolysis which has a magnetite layer on the surface and is utilized for electrolysis in the severe conditions and has excellent durable performance by heating and sintering iron oxide powder in the atmosphere contg. CO2 or steam to produce magnetite and grinding magnetite into fine powder and thermally-spraying this fine powder on the surface of a specified metallic base body. CONSTITUTION:A magnetite sintered body having the composition of Fe:O=3:(3.7-4.0) is produced by heating and sintering iron oxide powder such as Fe2O3 or FeO e.g. at >=900 deg.C in the gaseous atmosphere incorporating CO2 or steam as a main component. The magnetite sintered body is ground into fine powder. This fine powder is thermally-sprayed on the surface of a metallic base body having a Ti layer on the surface of steel material in the neutral-based gaseous atmosphere which has not extreme oxidative properties or reductive properties. Thereby an electrode which has the thermally-sprayed magnetic layer and is utilized for various electrolysis is produced. The electrode is obtained which has good conductivity and is excellent in durability in the severe electrolysis conditions.
