The above-mentioned carbon layer is obtd. by applying a slurry obtd. by adding about 3vol.% Ti, Zr powder or TiC, ZrC powder to an org. material liquid, such as phenolic resin, furan resin, or tar pitch, having a high residual content of carbon, onto the surface of the crucible, subjecting the coating to a heating treatment in a nonoxidation furnace to carbonize and vitrify the org. materials and to carbize the Ti and Zr. The penetration of the Al is prohibited by the vitreous layer which has no pores and gaps, is dense and contains the carbide hardly eroded by molten Al. The life of the graphite crucible for evaporating Al is thus prolonged.

    • PURPOSE:To maintain the mixed bath composition at all times and to stabilize the vaporization rate by vaporizing a vaporization material while replenishing the material to the mixed bath consisting of the vaporization material and a vaporization mitigating additive. CONSTITUTION:A columnar vaporization material 2 of Si, etc., to form a coated film by vacuum deposition, etc., is placed in a water-cooled annular crucible 1 and the material 2 is made vertically movable by the vertical movement of a supporting rod 3 and melted by electron beam heating, etc., to form the melt zone 4 of the material 2. An additive such as W to mitigate the vaporization of the material 2 is added into the zone 4 to form a mixed bath. As the Si of the vaporization material 2 is selectively vaporized from the surface 5 of the melt zone 4 of the mixed bath, the surface 5 tends to lower. However, the surface is kept at a fixed level by the movement of the supporting rod 3, the size of the zone 4 is kept constant, the composition of the zone is fixed and the variations of the vaporization rate are eliminated.

    • PURPOSE: To obtain a uniform compression molding of a mixture by supplying powder and granular material to a screw feeder from diagonally above, adding, under agitation, the second powder and granular material on the formed free flowing surface from above, and compression molding the materials after pressing preliminarily the same.
      CONSTITUTION: A free flowing surface 11 is produced in the inflow part when the reduced iron particles in a hopper 1 are supplied via a chute 2 into a screw chamber 3 from diagonally above. Coke powder is supplied and added, via a chute 12, to the surface 11 from above. The coke powder added onto the surface 11 is agitated and uniformly mixed by an impeller 15 and while the mixture is preliminarily pressed by a screw 4, the same is supplied to a roll briquetter 8. The mixture is compression molded by the calibers 9 provided to the briquetter 8 and is discharged as a molded briquette 10.

    • PURPOSE:To provide titled construction of improved plating quality, productivity and workability by constututing the same in such a way that many partition plates are provided in a vessel for plating materials along the advance direction of a steel strip and the bath level of the plating material is adjusted vertically in correspondence to the width of the steel strip. CONSTITUTION:As an example of plating Zn on the surface of a steel strip by vapor deposition, a storage tank 11 is moved vertically and the length L1 of the bath surface is adjusted to the length equivalent to an opening length l1 by shutters 3 and 4. Next, the temp. of the bath surface 7 of the length L1 is made equal over the entire area by controlling electric heaters 8, whereby the amts. (g/cm ) of Zn evaporating from the surface 7 between partition plates 13 are made equal. As a result, the thicknesses of the plating formed on a steel strip 2 by vapor deposition are made equal in the width direction of the steel strip. Hence, there are no fluctuations in the plating thicknesses in accordance with the change in the shutter opening length l1 in correspondence to the width of the steel strip, unlike in the prior art, and these make the operation easy.
