    • PURPOSE:To obtain good shaft seal regardless of the thermal expansion of a case by providing a cooling means on a stuffing box, providing on the outer periphery of the end section a conical taper sliding face with a top on the shaft center, and providing a conical taper sliding face brought into close contact with it on the case. CONSTITUTION:Even if a cylindrical case 1 is heated and thermally expanded, a stuffing box 3 is cooled by the cooling water flowing through a water jacket 20 and is not thermally expanded. Therefore, no gap is generated between outer peripheries of stirring shafts 6, 7 and gland packings 12, 13, thus a good shaft sealing effect can be maintained. Even if a conical taper sliding face 21 provided at the end of the stuffing box 3 and a conical taper sliding face 23 of a flange 22 at the end section of the cylindrical case 1 are relatively slid, the stuffing box 3 and the case 1 are concentrically kept, thus recesses 10, 11 of the stuffing box 3 and the stirring shafts 6, 7 are kept at the preset relative positions.

    • PURPOSE:To carry out a uniform agitation and mixing, by pushing down a spot at the boundary between gas and liquid, where fluids tend to stagnate, caused by the rotation of a ribbon type agitating vane in an agitation vessel, by means of a scraping vane which is twisted in a direction opposite to that of an agitating vane. CONSTITUTION:When two agitating vanes 2 having a same helical shape, which are twisted in the same direction and extended downwardly along the inner wall of an agitation vessel 1, are rotated, fluids in the vessel 1 are scraped upwardly by the agitating vanes 2 along the inner wall due to the frictional resistance, while a part of said fluids rises as high as the top of the vanes 2, most of which flows toward the central portion of the vessel 1 by head difference, with a part thereof, however, stagnating there. Since scraping vanes 3 which are twisted in a direction opposite to that of the agitating vanes 2 are secured to a rotation axis 5 with the highest portions thereof positioned higher than the highest portions of the agitating vanes, the stagnating fluids are pushed down to be mixed with other fluids.
