    • PURPOSE:To eliminate a residual cutting in the vicinity of the end face center where the cutting edge peripheral speed is small by projecting the cutting edge of the end face center vicinity by a curve on the plane orthogonal with a rotating center shaft, and simultaneously making the cutting edge not coincident with the moving direction of a ball end mill. CONSTITUTION:A ball end mill 1 is formed with a cutting edge spirally on the side face, cutting edges 4a, 4b are formed at the extension part from the cutting edge of the side face and at the vicinity of a rotating center 2 semi-circular recessed cutting edges 3a, 3b in the radius R of curvature to the degree of the feeding of while the ball end mill 1 is rotated half are formed. The cutting edges 3, 4a, 4b are also arranged on the virtual sphere generated with the ball and mill 1 being rotated from the nature of the ball end mill 1. Consequently the phase of the cutting edge differs against the rotation of the ball end mill 1, the coincidence of the moving direction of the ball end mill 1 and the direction of the cutting edge 3 simultaneously in all is eliminated, residual cuttings are reduced and the surface roughness is improved.

    • PURPOSE:To make the surface-roughness of a machined surface satisfactory by forming rake faces of a cutting blade which is positioned in the vicinity of the rotational center of the ball end mill adapted to be used for three- dimensional machining for a die or the like, in a normal rotational direction and a reverse direction, respectively. CONSTITUTION:A ball end mill 21 is formed thereon with an arcuated cutting blade 22 and a cutting blade 23, and is rotated counterclockwise so as to carry out cutting. Further, in addition to rake faces 24, 25, the cutting blades 22, 23 are formed thereon with rake faces 24, 25 between which the cutting blades 22, 23 are interposed, and rake faces 26, 27 are formed on the opposite surfaces thereof. Accordingly, in association with the feed and rotation of the ball end mill 21, the rake faces 24, 25, 26, 27 formed on the cutting blades 22, 23 in a normal rotational direction and in a reverse direction are moved in a direction in which cutting is made so that the cutting is made around the rotational center of the ball end mill 21. As a result, uncut parts during the process around the rotational center 1 can be reduced.

    • PURPOSE:To eliminate uncut portions by providing an annular cutting edge having the cutting edge located in an annular plane perpendicular to the rotary axis and an arcuate cutting edge surrounding the cutting edge and having the revolutional locus about the rotary axis showing an approximately spherical surface on the tip of a cylindrical mill body. CONSTITUTION:A cylindrical mill body 20 is formed on the tip coaxially with the axis 21 with an annular cutting edge 23 having the diameter (d) and the cutting edge 22 in a plane perpendicular to the rotary axis 21 and a conical relief surface 24 inside the annular cutting edge. Further, the annular cutting edge 23 is formed on the outer peripheral surface with a rake face 25. Two arcuate cutting edges 26, 27 making an approximately spherical surface of the rotary locus around the axis 21 are formed radically around annular cutting edge 23 and formed in the front face of the rotation direction with rake face 28, 29. Thus, while a planar groove having the width (d) and an arcuate surface contiguous to both sides of the planar groove due to the annular cutting edge 23 and cutting edges 26, 27 respectively are formed on the surface of a workpiece by the rotation of the mill, streaks and uncut conical portions are removed.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent lowering of working-shape accuracy, when the three- dimensional machining of a metal mold or the like is performed by a ball end mill provided with both a circular-arc shaped cutting edge and a flat shaped cutting edge, by detecting and correcting the shortage of cutting amount of the flat shaped cutting edge through the machine tool side. CONSTITUTION:The purpose of the bed 1 of a ball end mill machining device is to support a work 2 to be cut, and guide parts 3 are formed on both sides thereof. The lower end parts of columns 4 are movably fitted into the guide parts 3. On the upper part of the columns 4, a cross-rail 5 is provided, and thereon a saddle 6 is movably mounted. To the saddle 6, a main spindle head 9 provided with a main spindle 8 is movably provided via a guide member 7, and to the main spindle 8, a ball end mill 10 is fitted. Further, to this machining device, a control unit 11 for controlling the moving amount of the main spindle 8 is connected. While a circular-arc shaped cutting edge 12 and a flat shaped cutting edge 13 are provided to the ball end mill 10, when cutting is carried out by the cutting edge 13, the shortage of the cutting amount of the cutting edge 13 is detected and corrected through the machining device side.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent a cutting tool from being subjected to damage or abnormal abrasion by converting a sound, which is generated when discharged cut chips strike against a board, into an electric signal, detecting abnormality through comparing said signal with a reference electric signal, and thereby controlling feeding of the cutting tool. CONSTITUTION:Cut chips from a cutting tool 1 strike against a board to generate a sound. This sound is detected by a sound sensor 5 and converted into an electric signal 7 which is degitalized by an electric signal converter 6, and then input in a comparation operating part 9. A memory 8 stores therein a preliminarily set digitalized reference electric signal 12 which corresponds to the cutting sound at the time of normal cutting operation. These electric signals 7 and 12 are compared with each other by the comparation operating part 9. If the signal 7 differs widely with the signal 9, a stop signal is sent to a drive unit 10, then a driving system 14 is stopped. And if the signal differs therewith more or less, a feeding motor is controlled by the drive unit 10 so that the cutting condition resumes the normal level. Thus, it is able to cope with abnormality immediately, and damage of the cutting tool or abnormal abrasion can thereby the prevented.
