摘要： PURPOSE:To obtain a high-purity glass for laser, by embedding a rare earth element chloride in a porous glass preform and heat-treating the porous glass preform in a dehydrating gas atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:A rare earth element chloride is embedded in a porous glass preform and the preform is heat-treated in a dehydrating gas atmosphere to obtain a transparent glass for laser. The rare earth element chloride used in the above process is e.g. NdCl2, ErCl2, etc. The embedding of the rare earth element chloride in a porous glass preform can be carried out by boring a hole at an end of a porous glass preform, putting a rare earth element chloride in the hole and filling the hole with powder of porous glass preform. Since porous glass preform is brittle, it may be difficult to bore a hole in the porous glass preform. In such a case, the porous glass preform may be heat-treated at 1,200 deg.C for the about 30min., hardened to an extent and bored to form a hole for embedding the chloride.

摘要： PURPOSE:To produce the title porous base material having a stabilized structure in good yield by supplying a core material gas from a position directly under the lower end of a seed rod to be pulled up to deposit the soot on the rod, and then successively supplying a raw gas from the lower part to the upper part. CONSTITUTION:The raw gases for a core and a clad are supplied toward the lower end of the seed rod 5 to be rotated and pulled up, and burned. The formed soot is deposited on the lower end of the seed rod, 5, and the soot 20 is grown. In the production of the porous base material for the optical fiber, the raw gas for a core, oxygen, and hydrogen are supplied to a core burner 10 arranged directly under the lower end of the seed rod 5, and burned. The formed soot is deposited on the lower end of the seed rod 5. Meantime, oxygen and hydrogen are supplied to the clad burners 11-13 vertically arranged above the burner 10, and burned. As the soot deposits and grows into the soot 20, the raw gas is supplied instead of oxygen and hydrogen successively to the burners 11-13 from the lower part before the soot 20 is substantially exposed to the oxyhydrogen flame. By this method, a porous base material having a stabilized structure can be obtained from the start of the growth.
