    • PURPOSE:To provide an electrostatic charging device with which good images are obtainable continuously and which has high reliability even in a high-speed region by rotatably arranging plural sheet of films. CONSTITUTION:A member to be electrostatically charged is electrostatically charged by applying a potential difference between this member to be electrostatically charged and a frictionally electrifying member while making frictionally electrifying member rub this the surface of the member to be electrostatically charged. The frictionally electrifying member consists of the plural films which are rotatably arranged. Namely, the electrostatic charging device 2 is disposed with, for example, 8 sheets of film materials 12 at circumferentially equal intervals on the surface of a conductive substrate 11. A metallic shaft made of SUS303 having 8mm diameter and 370mm length is used for this conductive substrate 11. The film materials 12 mainly composed of nylon having 50mum film thickness are adhered to the surface of the conductive substrate 11 by applying an epoxy adhesive to adhesive allowances 13. At this time, conductive paste is applied to the circumferential parts 14 to 16 of the adhesive allowances 13 to electrically connect the conductive substrate 11 and the film materials 12.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reproducing device capable of efficiently detecting the modulated reflection light of a near field light radiated to a recording medium. SOLUTION: This reproducing device 1 is provided with a probe 40 for radiating a near field light to a recording medium 9, and a photodetection portion 45 for detecting a light 48 obtained by modulating the radiated near field light at the recording medium 9. This probe 40 is arranged such that the main axis MP of the radiated near field light is inclined by an angle α with respect to a vertical line VL to the recording surface 9a of the recording medium 9. In addition, the photodetection portion 45 is arranged such that the main axis SP of detected sensitivity is inclined by an angle β with respect to the vertical line VL to the recording surface 9a of the recording medium 9. The inclination angles α and β are approximately equal to each other. Thus, the modulated reflection light 48 of the near field light radiated to the recording medium 9 is efficiently detected.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a photochromic material that can be synthesized by relatively few reactions in relatively high yields and can give a ring-opening product having an absorption band reaching the vicinity of the visible region by using a diarylethene compound. SOLUTION: The diarylethene compound is represented by formula 1-5 (wherein R1 and R2 are each H, an alkyl, or an alkoxy; and A is a fused polycyclic aromatic group or a group derived by the removal of one H atom from a polyphenyl group). When a photochromic material is utilized in an optical recording medium, it needs to exhibit good repetition durability and thermal irreversibility in the recording, deletion, and reproduction of information. The diarylethene compound, especially, a diarylethene compound composed of a perfluorocyclopentene ring and two aryl groups bonded thereto satisfies the above requirements, is relatively simple in the route and step of synthesizing the material, and can be synthesized in high yields. The objective diarylethene compound can be obtained through a route of synthesis including steps of 1-1 to 1-5.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for generating near field light, capable of obtaining high intensity near field light and limiting the generation of the near field light to a region sufficiently smaller than a wavelength of incident light, and to provide an optical recording head which records information on a recording medium by using near field light and which is able to perform recording by emitting a smaller spot size and stronger intensity of near field light than those for a conventional optical recording head. SOLUTION: In the near field light generating device 100 for embodying the near field light generating method, a part of an optical path 40 is formed of a total reflection plane 7 of a prism 6 (an example of a whole reflection member), and the whole reflection plane 7 of an optical resonator 50 is formed in such way that the light 4 traveling in the optical path 40 is wholly reflected by the whole reflection plane 7. A mask layer 9 (an example of a mask) having a small aperture 10 for limiting a near field light generating region is provided on the rear side 7' of the side wholly reflecting the light emitted from a light source 1.
