    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small-sized spindle motor especially with low overall height.
      SOLUTION: The spindle motor incorporates a rotor 6 with a shaft 8 coupled to a rotor's bell mouth portion 7, a cylindrical bearing sleeve 10 with a flange 11 at the opening area for housing of the shaft 8 on a feed hole, a stopper ring 14 fixed between the flange 11 and a base plate 13 at the inner diameter side of the rotor's bell mouth portion 7, and at least one radial bearing each of 15 and 16 employing a surface pattern structure which is formed between the outer diameter side of the shaft 8 and the inner diameter side of the bearing sleeve 10. This spindle motor is provided with a pan-shaped cabinet 12 at the bottom side of the pan-shaped bearing for housing the bearing sleeve 10 with one side of a fluid dynamic pressure bearing closed, and an annular thrust bearing 18 fixed between the flat bottom surface on the flange 11 and the flat top surface on the stopper ring 14.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dynamic-pressure bearing used for a spindle motor or the like in which power losses are reduced, the functionality is enhanced, high rigidity in the radial direction is obtained when the motor is driven, and excellent rigidity in the axial direction is obtained when the motor is started and stopped.
      SOLUTION: The dynamic-pressure bearing comprises a shaft (14), a bearing sleeve (12) with the shaft passed therethrough with a small space in the radial direction, and a counter plate (30) coupled with the bearing sleeve in a relatively non-rotatable manner at one end portion of the bearing sleeve (12). A thrust plate (32) or an expansion part (42) to be gradually expanded as the dimension in the radial direction is brought close to a shaft end portion is provided on the end portion of the shaft on the counter plate (30) side. A bearing space which is filled with bearing fluid and having a means to generate the excessive pressure higher than the atmospheric pressure is formed between the shaft (14) and the bearing sleeve (12).
