    • PURPOSE:To aim at the promotion of properness in the step-out detection of an actuator, by comparing a difference between a desired steering ratio and a detected steering ratio with a step-out detection range to be determined according to a running state, detecting a step-out state of the actuator, and at the time of step-out detecting, compensating a steering characteristic to the specified characteristic. CONSTITUTION:In this steering gear, there is provided with a steering ratio setting means 103 which sets each desired steering ratio of both front and rear wheels on the basis of the preset steering ratio characteristic, and an actuator 51 is driven by the output, then each steering ratio of these front and rear wheels is controlled so as to become the desired steering ratio. In this case, also there is provided with a steering ratio detecting means 101 which detects the actual steering ratio controlled by the actuator 51, and a difference between the detected steering ratio and the desired steering ratio is compared with a step-out detection range where a side of the unstable side of a running characteristic is set to be narrower than that at the stable side, thus a step-out state of the actuator 51 is detected. And, when a step-out state is detected, a steering characteristic inherent in a vehicle is constituted so as to be compensated to the specified characteristic by a compensating means 105.

    • PURPOSE:To aim at the promotion of properness in transition to a stable side control mode, by driving an actuator as long as the specified time at the time of detecting the actuator step-out by a comparison between a desired steering ratio and a detected steering ratio, and making it rejudge the transition to the stable side control mode on the basis of the subsequent state. CONSTITUTION:In this steering gear, there is provided with a steering ratio setting means 103 which sets each desired steering ratio of both front and rear wheels on the basis of the preset steering ratio characteristic, and an actuator 51 is driven by the output, then each steering ratio of these front and rear wheels is controlled so as to become the desired steering ratio. In this case, there is provided with a step-out detecting means 104 which detects a step-out state of the actuator by comparing the actual steering ratio controlled at the actuator 51 with the desired steering ratio. And, at the time of step-out detecting, the actuator 51 is driven as long as the specified time so as to cause the steering ratio to become the desired steering ratio by an actuator additional driving means 105, while afterward, when it is so judged that the steering ratio has not accorded with the desired steering ratio, a steering characteristic is compensated to a two-wheel steering state by a compensating means 106.

    • PURPOSE:To make it possible to diagnose a trouble during four wheel steering control mode, without the stability peculiar to the four wheel steering control being deteriorated, by diagnosing a failure of a control means which changes over between the operation and non-operation of a rear wheel steering means when the neutral of the rear wheel steering angle is detected. CONSTITUTION:When a vehicle is in a four wheel steering control running condition, a controller 8 determines whether the rear wheel steering angle is neutral or not, in accordance with a rear wheel steering angle signal from a rear wheel steering sensor 30. Further, in such a two wheel steering condition as it is determined that the rear wheel steering angle is neutral, a solenoid valve 28 for changing over between the four wheel steering mode and the two wheel steering mode is checked. This checking is made by checking whether the voltage at an input terminal 45 is changed or not when the voltage at an output terminal 44 of a microcomputer 31 is changed over. That is, if the voltage at the input terminal 45 is a value L after a predetermined time elapses from the time when the rear wheel steering angle becomes neutral, it is determined that the solenoid valve 28 is normal.

In the steering gear like this, also there is provided with a steering ratio detecting means 101 which detects the actual steering ratio controlled by the actuator 51, and a difference between the detected steering ratio and the desired steering ratio is compared with a step-out detection range different in an unstable area and a stable area as to a travel characteristic at a step-out detecting means 104, whereby a step-out state of the actuator 51 is detected. And, when step-out is detected, the steering characteristic of a vehicle is constituted so as to be compensated to the specified characteristic by a compensating means 105.
