    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent generation of breaks even when a dielectric layer is formed thin in a PDP, and furthermore prevent the generation of the crack or the like on the glass substrate in a manufacturing process of the PDP even though the glass substrate is made thinner than before.
      SOLUTION: In the PDP, when the dielectric layer is coated on a silver electrode of the surface of a panel, the surface of the silver electrode is coated by a layer 13a composed of 'a metal oxide to form hydroxyl groups on the surface' by a CVD method, and the dielectric layer 13 is coated on it, or the dielectric layer is formed by the metal oxide by using a vacuum process such as the CVD method. Furthermore, if the dielectric layer is formed by the vacuum process method or flame spray coating, buckling or the crack of the panel caused by the baking of the dielectric layer is eliminated. Furthermore, if borosilicate glass in which alkaline component of 6.5 wt.% or less is used as the material of glass substrates 11, 21, this is more effective.
