A screen printing method facilitating mass-production is used for the manufacture of the rear substrate and the front substrate. The backing electrode 15 is entirely covered with the cathode 16, so that the sputtering of the backing electrode 15 can be prevented.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source device in which a malfunction caused by gaps inevitably formed between an external electrode and the outer peripheral face of a bulb is eliminated, and the dielectric breakdown of atmospheric gas can be prevented surely, and of which the luminous flux maintenance rate is high.
      SOLUTION: As for the light source device, respective voids between a light-emitting tube and the external electrode composed of one face or more are set at a prescribed space or more in which the voids do not make the dielectric breakdown, and an average value of gap spacings on respective faces can improve a brightness maintenance rate, and is set at the value keeping initial brightness in a high prescribed range. By this, the light source device of which the brightness maintenance rate is high can be obtained while suppressing the dielectric breakdown.
