    • PURPOSE: To prevent the leakage of electrolyte solution to the battery outside through a gas vent hole in a sealing part so as to improve an antileakage properly in a battery provided with a thin part serving as an explosion-proof mechanism in a gasket. CONSTITUTION: Inside a sealing body 5, a water repellent high polymer film 10 which is provided with gas permeability and prevents impregnation of liquid is arranged between a ring washer 8 and a gasket 7, and at least the outer circumference part and the inner circumference part of the water repellent high polymer film 10 are put between the gasket 7 and the ring washer 8 so as to be pressure fitted and sealed. In this way, only the gas inside a battery is discharged, even when gas generated inside the battery increases a battery internal pressure and a safety valve in a thin part serving as an explosion-proof mechanism is operated, so that electrolyte solution is prevented from leaking to the battery outside, and consequently, a battery provided with a high antileakage property can be obtained.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent internal short circuit to enhance reliability by limiting the amount of sodium or a sodium ion calculated in terms of sodium in a gelled negative electrode to a specified concentration. CONSTITUTION:The concentration of sodium or a sodium ion contained in a gelling agent and an alkaline electrolyte is limited to a specified value based on the amount of zinc which is a negative active material of a battery. Rising in conductivity of dendritic zinc oxide crystals deposited in discharge is retarded, and discharge performance is improved. The amount of sodium or a sodium ion calculated in terms of sodium in a gelled negative electrode 4 is limited to 0.25wt.% or less based on the weight of the zinc active material. Manganese dioxide is used as the main component of a positive active material 2, potassium hydroxide is used as the main component of the alkaline electrolyte, and nonamalgamated zinc is used as the main component of the negative active material, and the alkaline electrolyte is formed in gel by using sodium polyacrylate as the gelling agent.

    • PURPOSE:To restrain excess gas from being linearly emitted, and thereby narrow a range of splashing by forming a cut-out section through which gas within a battery is emitted while being communicated with a explosion proof mechanism, in a terminal plate sealing a metallic case including a power generating element. CONSTITUTION:A metallic case loaded with a power generating element is sealed with a resin sealing body 5, and a negative electrode current collector 10 is integrally fitted in its thick wall section 13. The thin wall section 6 of the sealing body 5 is opened because of an increase in inner pressure due to gas produced, and the gas containing electrolyte is emitted to the outside of a battery out of a cut-out section 11 provided for a negative electrode terminal plate 9 through the through hole 8 of a washer 7. Since the cut-out section 11 is in a linear shape, emitted gas is once in contact with the inner surface of the terminal plate 9 so as to let electrolyte be removed, and it is not linearly splashed over in a wide range. In this case, it is preferable that the cut-out section is non-linear in shape, a slice 12 in an oval shape, a triangle shape and the like are formed, and the most part of electrolyte is removed by its rocking motion. Beside, it is more effective that the slice 12 is inclined toward the inside of the terminal plate 9.

    • PURPOSE:To contrive to reduce the deterioration rate of battery performance taking place during preservation at a normal temperature for a long term and preservation at a high temperature, by providing a gel-formed negative pole which is produced by dispersing negative pole active material through gel-formed electroyte consisting of alkaline electrolytic liquid and gelatinizer and employing crosslinking branched type sodium polyacrylate and carbamidine-gum in parallel as the gelatinizer. CONSTITUTION:Branched type sodium polyacrylate and carbamidine-gum are used in parallel as a gelatinizer for gel-formed negative pole of an alkaline battery and the concentration of gel-form electrolyte is set in a range from 0.5-4.0wt% for the branched type sodium polyacrylate and in a range from 0.25-3.0wt% for carbamidine-gum. Namely, positive pole black mix 2 consisting of manganese dioxide and graphite is molded in a cylindrical shape in advance to be placed in a positive pole case 1 and a cup-shaped separator 3 is inserted in the center thereof. Then, the gel-formed negative pole 4 is poured in the cup-shaped separator 3. Thereafter, a negative pole collector 6 accompanied by a gasket 5 is inserted in the center part of the gel-formed negative pole 4 to form an elementary cell. Thus, the deterioration rate of battery performance taking place during preservation at a normal temperature for a long term and preservation at a high temperature can be reduced and such performance of a battery as being stabilized against drop and vibration can be secured.
