    • PURPOSE:To obtain a direct positive type photographic emulsion having very low sensitivity and suitable for a daylight photosensitive material for a photomechanical process for manufacturing a printing plate by simultaneously adding an aqueous silver salt soln. and an aqueous halide soln. to an aqueous soln. contg. hydrophilic colloid at a specified speed while keeping the silver potential at a specified value and by mixing them. This emulsion gives low Dmin and high contrast and can be used as an emulsion for a photosensitive material having very low sensitivity and handleable in a light room iluminated with a fluorescent lamp cutting ultraviolet rays, an incandescent lamp or the like.     • PURPOSE:To provide long-term shelf stability and high developability by forming at least one nonphotosensitive hydrophilic colloidal layer contg. a polyhydroxybenzene compound and coloring matter having an acid group on one side of a support. CONSTITUTION:An emulsion layer contg. photosensitive silver halide and hydrophilic colloid is formed on one side of a support. The silver halide particles contain rhodium. A nonphotosensitive hydrophilic colloidal layer contg. coloring matter having an acid group and a polyhydroxybenzene compound is formed on the other side of the support. The acid group is sulfonic acid, carboxylic acid, other acid group of the sodium, potassium or ammonium salt thereof. The polyhydroxybenzene compound is a compound having at least two hydroxyl groups on its benzene ring. The compound may have substituents such as halogen, alkyl, substituted alkyl, alkoxy, sulfonic acid or carboxy at positions other than the hydroxyl substituted positions. A photosensitive material obtd. by this method undergoes no change in contrast and fog with the lapse of time.
