    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device that has high utilization efficiency of light and can display a bright video.SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display device comprises: a liquid crystal display panel 15; and a surface light source unit 20. The surface light source unit 20 includes: a light source part; a light guide plate 21 that makes light from the light source part incident from a light incidence surface facing the light source part, that has a maximum strength of directivity in a first direction forming a predetermined angle from a normal direction of a light emitting surface in a surface nearly parallel to a light guiding direction of light, and that emits first directivity light that is polarization light having a high ratio of a polarization component vibrating in the surface; and a prism sheet 30 that emits the first directivity light as a second directivity light directed in a second direction in a predetermined angle from the normal direction of the light emitting surface of the light guide plate while substantially maintaining a polarization state of the first directivity light. A ridge line direction of a unit prism is nearly parallel to the light incidence surface of the light guide plate 21, a transmission of axis of a second polarization plate 14 is nearly parallel to a polarization direction of the second directivity light and a light guiding direction of light of the light guide palate 21, and the transmission axis of the second polarization plate 14 is nearly orthogonal to a transmission axis of a first polarization plate 13.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composite polarizing plate excellent in visibility under bright environment, capable of reducing parallax and capable of reducing thickness of the liquid crystal display device, and to provide a liquid crystal display device.
      SOLUTION: The composite polarizing plate is used in the liquid crystal display device including a liquid crystal cell, a front substrate, and a parallel light source device and has a polarizer and a light diffusion adhesive layer arranged on one side of the polarizer. The composite polarizing plate is arranged to bring the light diffusion adhesive layer into contact with the front substrate for use in the liquid crystal display device. Since the front substrate can be joined with the light diffusion adhesive layer by using this composite polarizing plate, an air layer is not formed between the polarizer and the front substrate. Consequently, this composite polarizing plate achieves excellent visibility under bright environment, reduces palallax, makes the liquid crystal display device thin, and significantly improves the effect of improvement of front contrast ratio by the parallel light source device.
