    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact and light-weight charged particle size sorting device capable of a continuous taking out without degradation in selective strength with particles of a larger mass.
      SOLUTION: The device for selecting by the size the charged particles such as ion and cluster with velocity differentials according to masses is provided with a travelling wave generating electrode 32 generating travelling waves having a field component vertical to a travelling axis of the charged particles and having a waveform with an extreme value for the field of the component to be a value near zero and travelling along the travelling axis of the charged particles, and a mechanism 33 for adjusting phase velocities of the travelling waves. The charged particles are selected in accordance with the masses by matching the phase velocities of the travelling waves generated at the travelling wave generating electrode 32 with travelling velocity of the charged particles as objects for selection.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact and light-weight charged particle mass sorting device capable of continuously taking out charged particles of ion, cluster or the like with velocity differentials according to mass by selecting them by the size.
      SOLUTION: A first high-frequency field generating electrode 32 and a second high-frequency field generating electrode 34 of the same shape are arranged with a gap in between with an outlet slit 36. The first high-frequency field generating electrode 32 generates a first high-frequency field with a period of one divided by an integer of the time for the charged particles as an object for selection to pass, the second high-frequency field generating electrode 34 is delayed from the first high-frequency field by a phase angle equal to a value of a width of the gap divided by a length of the electrode, and generates a second high-frequency field with a contrary phase and the same frequency and amplitude. The outlet slit 36 is arranged on a travelling axis of the charged particles and the selected charged particles are collected from the outlet slit.
