    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a highly heat resistant modified phenolic resin, by which the modified phenolic resin having excellent in heat resistance and not containing an acid substantially can be produced in one process, and in the case of combining with an epoxy resin, having an excellent heat resistance and moisture resistance, not having corroding property to metals and having an excellent electric insulation property.
      SOLUTION: This method for producing a modified phenolic resin is provided by mixing 1-20 mol phenol with ≥3.0 mol and up to 15 mol formaldehyde compound based on the formaldehyde and 1 mol of petroleum heavy oils or pitches calculated from an average molecular weight of them, heating and agitating at 160-200°C in the absence of a catalyst for performing a polycondensation reaction.
